Use of DSC for DGFT Portal

The DGFT is a government agency in India that makes rules for trading with other countries. It is part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It is led by the Commerce Secretary and has several responsibilities,

Making and following the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP)
Issuing codes for imports and exports
Providing benefits for exports
Helping with online filing and information for trading

Uses of DSC on the DGFT Website

In the context of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in India, Digital Signature Certificates (DSCs) can be used for various purposes, including:

Filing applications and documents with the DGFT online portal. DSCs are required to sign and authenticate these documents.

Obtaining an Importer Exporter Code (IEC) from the DGFT.

Filing applications for export-related benefits and incentives as per the FTP, such as RoDTEP & RoSCTL.

Filing applications for advance authorization, which allows Indian exporters to import goods duty-free for the purpose of export.

Filing applications for EPCG (Export Promotion Capital Goods) authorization, which allows Indian exporters to import capital goods at a reduced rate of duty for the purpose of export.

Type of DSC required for DGFT website?

DSCs are issued by organizations called certificate authorities (CAs) that verify identities before issuing them. There are three types of DSCs: Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3.

Of these, you need an IEC based Organization Class 3 DSC for use on the DGFT website.

What is an IEC based Organization Class 3 DSC?

An IEC-based digital signature certificate (DSC) is issued by a certificate authority (CA) and is linked to the Importer Exporter Code (IEC) of the individual or organization to which it is issued.

For use on the DGFT Portal, you need to obtain an IEC Based Organization Class 3 DSC.
