To apply for an IEC (Importer Exporter Code) certificate online in India, you need to visit the official portal of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) at www.dgft.gov.in. The application process is simple, paperless, and entirely digital.
First, register on the portal using your PAN, mobile number, and email ID. Once registered, log in and go to Services > IEC Profile Management > Apply for IEC. Begin a fresh application and select your entity type (individual, proprietorship, company, etc.). Enter key details such as name, business address, contact information, and bank account details.
You will need to upload scanned copies of essential documents, including:
After uploading, digitally sign the form using either a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) or Aadhaar e-sign for individuals and proprietors. Next, pay the government fee of ₹500 online via UPI, net banking, or card.
Once the application is submitted successfully, the DGFT processes it, and the IEC certificate is typically issued within 1–2 working days. The certificate is emailed to the applicant and can also be downloaded from the DGFT portal. The IEC is valid for life but must be updated annually, even if no changes occur.
