How do I renew my IEC certificate?

how to renew iec certificate

Importers and exporters in India must ensure their Importer Exporter Code (IEC) remains active and up to date. As per DGFT guidelines, even though the IEC itself doesn’t expire, it must be updated or confirmed annually between April and June on the DGFT portal. Failure to do so can lead to deactivation of the IEC.

To renew or update your IEC certificate:

  1. Visit the DGFT portal (https://dgft.gov.in) and log in using your credentials.
  2. Navigate to “IEC Profile Management” under the “Services” tab.
  3. Select the option “Update/Modify IEC”.
  4. Review all your details (business name, address, bank account, director details, etc.). Make necessary updates if anything has changed.
  5. Submit the form and verify using a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) or Aadhaar OTP.
  6. Once submitted, download the updated IEC certificate with the latest date.

Even if there are no changes, businesses must log in and confirm the IEC annually. This simple action fulfills the compliance requirement. There’s no government fee for updating or confirming the IEC, but non-compliance can result in penalties or issues during customs clearance.

Stay compliant by setting a yearly reminder in April to confirm or update your IEC details.
