Applying for an Importer Exporter Code (IEC) online in India is a quick and fully digital process facilitated through the DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) portal. Here’s a step-by-step guide to applying online in under 1500 characters:
Start by visiting the official DGFT website at www.dgft.gov.in. Register as a user using your PAN, email ID, and mobile number. After verifying your contact details through OTP, log in to the portal. From the dashboard, go to Services > IEC Profile Management > Apply for IEC.
Click on “Start Fresh Application” and fill in the required details such as the name of the applicant, nature of the entity (individual, firm, company, etc.), PAN number, business address, contact information, and bank details. Upload supporting documents like the PAN card, address proof (e.g., electricity bill or lease agreement), a cancelled cheque or bank certificate, and certificate of incorporation if applicable.
The application must be signed digitally using a DSC (Digital Signature Certificate) or through Aadhaar-based e-sign. Once all details are completed and documents uploaded, pay the government fee of ₹500 using online payment options like net banking, UPI, or credit/debit card.
After submission, the application is processed by DGFT, and the IEC certificate is usually issued within 1–2 working days. It can be downloaded from the portal and is valid for a lifetime, subject to annual updates.
