The IOR (Importer of Record) fee is the charge paid to a third-party service provider who legally assumes responsibility for importing goods into a country on your behalf. This fee covers critical import tasks such as ensuring customs compliance, paying duties and taxes, handling import permits or licenses, classifying goods accurately, and coordinating delivery. Businesses use IOR services when they don’t have a legal entity or import license in the destination country. The IOR fee varies based on several factors, including the destination country, type and value of goods, number of SKUs, and regulatory complexity. Countries with stricter import laws (like Brazil, India, or China) often have higher IOR costs. For standard shipments, the IOR fee typically ranges from USD 500 to USD 2,000, though it can exceed USD 3,000 for high-value or high-compliance goods such as electronics, medical devices, or IT equipment. Some providers offer flat-rate pricing, while others base fees on shipment value or volume. Understanding this fee is crucial for budgeting and ensuring a compliant, hassle-free import process.
