To modify IGCR registration after your business circumstances change, you amend the prior intimation in the IGCR module on ICEGATE rather than starting over. The scheme allows an existing prior intimation and its IGCR Identification Number (IIN) to be updated, so changes to your goods, quantities, premises, or other declared details are handled by editing the record you already hold. Because the concession depends on your declaration matching reality, keeping the registration current is not optional; an out-of-date intimation can undermine your clearances and bond re-credit.
Common triggers for updating an IGCR registration include a change in the goods or notification you import under, a need to increase the estimated quantity or value beyond what you first declared, a new or changed premises where goods are received and used, and changes to your continuity bond as import volumes grow. Any material shift between what you declared and what you are actually doing is a reason to amend.
Log in to ICEGATE, open the IGCR module under the Services tab, and locate your existing prior intimation. The module provides an update option against the intimation, through which you revise the relevant fields. After updating, the amended details govern your subsequent imports. This is the same record that generated your IIN, so you are refining an existing registration, not creating a parallel one.
If your import volumes rise, the continuity bond may need topping up so it continues to cover the differential duty on goods in process. The module includes a facility to request a fresh continuity bond or top up an existing one. Modifying your registration often goes hand in hand with a bond adjustment, and both should be kept in step with your real activity.
Older guidance said a new IIN had to be generated every financial year. Under the current ICEGATE 2.0 position, that is no longer the case; an existing IIN can now be carried forward into the next financial year rather than regenerated. So a change of financial year is not itself a reason to re-register. What does require action is a genuine change in your declared particulars, which you handle by amending the intimation as above.
When you modify the registration, make sure any covering letters, bond documents, and internal records line up with the amended intimation. The same consistency that matters at first registration matters at amendment: customs checks that your declaration, your bond, and your actual imports agree. A change captured on the portal but not reflected in your supporting paperwork reintroduces the mismatch you were trying to fix.
It is straightforward to modify IGCR registration when the change is clearly identified and the bond is adjusted in step. Our team manages IGCR registration changes end to end, keeping the portal record, bond, and paperwork aligned. See the IGCR clearance service or contact [email protected] or +91 91673 79073.
