IGCR clearance

Managing crores in IGCR bonds across two importers, addendum by addendum

How we sized and tracked concessional-duty bonds and bank guarantees for an industrial and an energy-sector importer, through scaling imports and the 2024 move to ICEGATE e-filing.

Industrial importer, FY 2023-24
₹2.1 Cr bondFour bank guarantees lodged and tracked against it: ₹10.5 Lakh, ₹4.5 Lakh, ₹2.1 Cr and ₹2.0 Cr. Imports continued without a duty dispute.
Energy-sector importer, FY 2023-24 to 2024-25
₹2.1 Cr bondEnhanced by addendums of ₹2.0 Cr, ₹2.8 Cr and ₹1.4 Cr, plus a parallel ₹10 Lakh bond with its own addendums. Volumes scaled while staying compliant.

Importer of Record

Importing into India for a US company with no local entity

Client: A US technology company shipping networking equipment to its Indian client, with no Indian entity.

Outcome: Imported and delivered under our IEC, with BIS and WPC confirmed before shipping, so the consignment cleared without a hold.

Certificate of Origin

Getting a preferential Certificate of Origin approved before the vessel cut-off

Client: A garment exporter whose buyer would only honour the agreed price if the shipment qualified for preferential duty.

Outcome: Approved on the DGFT e-CoO platform before the cut-off. The buyer kept the duty rate the deal was priced on, and the goods cleared destination customs without a query.

Codes and registrations

The IEC, ICEGATE access, port-wise AD Codes and the Class 3 DSC that every customs filing depends on.

Import Export Code

A new IEC for a startup, and a same-day reactivation for an exporter

Clients: An e-commerce startup importing from Europe, and a textile exporter whose IEC had been deactivated.

Outcome: The new IEC was issued in time to clear the first consignment. The lapsed IEC was reactivated the same day by completing the missed annual update.

Class 3 DSC

Getting a logistics firm filing on ICEGATE with a Class 3 DSC

Client: A logistics provider whose in-house DSC application had stalled on documents and identity verification.

Outcome: A Class 3 Organization DSC issued in a day or two once the documents were in order, registered on ICEGATE against the IEC, and usable for DGFT, GST and MCA filings too.

Product approvals

BIS, WPC, EPR and FSSAI: what a product needs before it can be imported, sold in India or exported.

BIS certification

Launching a smartwatch for the festive season with BIS CRS

Client: An international electronics brand bringing a new smartwatch line to India on a fixed launch date.

Outcome: R-number issued through the CRS lab-test route, not a factory audit, ahead of the festive window. The WPC approval it also needed ran in parallel.

WPC ETA

Clearing a Bluetooth product for India launch with a WPC ETA

Client: A global tech brand launching Bluetooth headphones in India, with no local team to run the certification.

Outcome: ETA approved on Saral Sanchar before the first consignment, and the BIS CRS requirement nobody had spotted was handled in parallel.

EPR registration

Getting an electronics importer EPR compliant, not just on paper

Client: An importer of consumer electronic gadgets, new to EPR and unsure which of the three CPCB regimes applied.

Outcome: Registered under the regimes that actually applied, with a route to targets through CPCB-registered recyclers and an annual returns calendar in place.

What these case studies have in common

The problems differ. The approach does not: get the compliance right the first time, so the goods keep moving.

The second approval is caught early
The WPC filing flagged a BIS CRS requirement, the BIS filing flagged a WPC ETA, and the spice exporter also needed Spices Board registration. Each ran in parallel instead of turning into a hold at the port.
The route is settled before anything is filed
CRS lab testing instead of an FMCS factory audit for the smartwatch. A preferential certificate, not a plain one, for the FTA-priced order. A Central FSSAI Licence, the only tier valid for exporters.
Deadlines are worked backwards
A vessel cut-off, a festive launch window, a first consignment and an urgent export order set the dates in these files. Each approval landed before its date.
Compliance is kept current, not filed once
IGCR bonds enhanced by addendum as imports grew, EPR returns put on an annual calendar, and a lapsed IEC traced back to the April to June annual update.
