View IEC on DGFT: Check Any IEC Status Free, No Login

View IEC means looking up an Import Export Code on the DGFT portal. DGFT’s free View Any IEC tool takes two details, the 10-digit IEC and the first three characters of the firm name, plus a captcha. There is no login, so you can view IEC details for your own code or a supplier’s before you trade. The same result shows the IEC status, which tells you whether the code is active.

Logging in gives you more: the full IEC profile with branches, directors, bank accounts and any RCMC. This guide covers both, what each IEC status means, and what to do when the code comes back deactivated.

How to View IEC Details on DGFT in 2 Minutes

This is the free public route to view IEC details. You do not need an account, a digital signature or the registered mobile number.

Step 1: Open the DGFT portal.

Go to dgft.gov.in. Use the official site only, since paid lookalike sites charge for a check DGFT provides free.

Step 2: Click View your IEC.

It sits in the quick links on the home page and opens the View Any IEC box.

Step 3: Enter the IEC.

Type the 10-digit Importer/Exporter Code. Since GST, the IEC is the same as the firm’s PAN, so it is 10 characters, not a separate number. Our guide on IEC and PAN explains that change.

Step 4: Enter the firm name.

DGFT asks for at least the first three characters, and they must match the name registered against that IEC, not a brand or trading name.

Step 5: Type the captcha and click View IEC.

The result appears on the same screen.Because this check is public, your freight forwarder, Customs Broker or overseas buyer can run it too. That cuts both ways: your counterparties can see whether your IEC is in order, so it is worth knowing what they see.

What the View IEC Result Shows

The public view is a summary of what DGFT holds against the code, not the full profile. Expect the firm name and address held by DGFT, the IEC issue details, and the current IEC status. It is enough to answer three questions:

• Does this IEC exist? A supplier or buyer who cannot be found by code and firm name is worth a second look before you ship.
• Is the IEC active right now? This is the check most people actually want when they search for IEC status.
• Do the registered details match what the firm told you? A mismatch between the DGFT record and the paperwork is a common sign of stale registration.

What Each IEC Status Means

Treat any status other than active as urgent. Shipments already in transit can sit at the port while the code is fixed, and demurrage runs in the meantime.

View IEC in Full After Login

The public tool shows a summary. To view IEC records in full, log in:

1. Log in at dgft.gov.in with the account the IEC is linked to.
2. Open Services, then IEC Profile Management.
3. Choose View IEC Profile.

The profile carries the firm details, branch addresses, directors or partners, bank accounts and any RCMC linked to the code. From the same menu you can update the IEC or print the certificate.

Read this screen before your annual update, not after. Most deactivations trace back to a detail here going stale: a closed bank account, a branch that moved, or a director who left.

Check IEC Status at ICEGATE

A live IEC at DGFT is only half the job. Customs can only accept filings once the IEC has reached ICEGATE, which is why exporters see filings rejected on a code that looks fine on DGFT. The DGFT home page carries an IEC Status at ICEGATE link for exactly this check, and it needs no login.

Why an IEC Shows Deactivated

DGFT requires the IEC to be updated every year, even when nothing has changed, and codes that are not updated are de-activated. The requirement comes from Notification No. 58/2015-2020, and DGFT still runs a notice about it on the portal home page.

The usual causes:

• The annual update was missed. By far the most common.
• Details went stale: a closed bank account, an old branch address, a changed director or partner.
• Action by DGFT or another authority against the firm.
• The profile was never linked to a DGFT account after the portal moved, so nobody in the business can file the update.
